When should I start link building?

Kicking off too early before your site offers real value or a clear SEO strategy can nullify the initial impact of links.
You can in theory start link building whenever you want, but, for the BEST outcomes we generally recommend addressing ALL technical SEO issues, ensuring the sites indexed URL profile is healthy, review content and ensure content is in the best possible state so that links COMPLEMENT the performance gains.
How much should I pay for link building?
There’s no definitive answer to this, link investments and the amount to spend is entirely dependent on your domain, your domains history & current link profile, your organic performance, your market/competitors and niche.
Most businesses tend to set aside a budget for SEO which will include spend for links, however some businesses may earmark budget for link building campaigns where a budget is provided and then a “net cost per link is set” to average the output.
How do you calculate how much a backlink is worth?
A backlinks worth is USUALLY calculated by common metrics such as DR (domain rating), DA (domain authority), TF (trust flow) and domain traffic.Â
But in reality, this is flawed because backlinks should never be valued by a domains “vanity metrics”.
A backlinks worth is entirely dependent on:
- Quality of the overall domain
- Quality of the page/content linking to your site
- Estimated domain AND URL linking traffic
- Outbound link ratios from the linking URL
- Amount of effort required to get the link (labour cost)
A backlinks worth should GENERALLY be based off of the quality of the link as opposed to domain vanity metrics.
