What We Offer

We offer a full google penalty / manual action recovery service for businesses who have websites that have lost traffic & rankings as a result of a Google manual action penalty. We offer a full penalty assessment, clean up + reconsideration submission service to help restore your rankings.

Google search console contains a section called "Manual Actions" - it's where notifications of penalties appear - and when they do appear, they can have a significant impact on a websites organic traffic profile.

Manual actions are Google's way of notifying you of a penalty alongside the actual penalty itself which can affect anything from a single page to a whole website - depending on the scale and severity of the manual action.

Whilst they can have a significant impact on website traffic (negatively) - they are also easier to recover from than traditional losses associated with Google core updates, primarily because manual actions tell you what the issue is + you get a chance to submit a reconsideration request to Google once the issue has been dealt with.

Why Is Resolving a Manual Action Important?

Resolving a manual action is important because whilst one is in place, it can not only have a profound impact on rankings and traffic, it can impede organic performance moving forwards, therefore, if a manual action appears, it's best to address it as early on as possible.

How We Can Help

We provide a comprehensive manual action recovery service that covers manual action penalty assessments, manual action issue resolution and reconsideration submissions.

Manual Action Penalty Assessments

We have a look at your Google search console data to assess what manual actions you have, what the highlighted issues are and what's likely to be required to resolve the highlighted action.

Some of the most common manual actions include:

  • Core spam manual actions
  • Site abused with third-party spam
  • User-generated spam
  • Spammy free host
  • Major spam problems
  • Unnatural links to your site
  • Unnatural links from your site

Reconsideration Submissions

Once we've performed the required clean-ups on the domain we can then work on reconsideration request submissions to help get the manual action / Google penalty lifted.

Why Did We Get a Manual Action in the First Place?

This can have numerous answers to it - for most, manual actions are a result of spammy shortcuts being taken with the SEO, for others it can be a result of a negative SEO attack (external).

Most manual actions typically tend to happen when:

  • SEOs, agencies or in-house SEOs are buying unscrupulous sources
  • Where SEOs, agencies or in-house SEOs are buying links from PBN providers, Blackhat SEO communities
  • Where short-cuts are taken by lower quality SEOs or agencies to save money, lower retainers tend to give lower quality agencies a reason to "short-cut" the process by using spammy tactics (which are generally cheaper to execute)
  • Where SEO hasn't been done properly but where the outcome wasn't to manipulate search engines but was interpreted that way i.e. erroneous or spammy utilisation of structured data
  • Clients operate in grey / black or hyper-competitve niches such as Casino, Gambling, Pharma, Adult sites - grey and black hat techniques are more commonplace in these niches
  • Clients are hit by negative SEO attacks - some tend to be super aggressive often sending thousands of spammy referring domains with spammy anchors in an attempt to displace competitor rankings

How to Check for a Manual Action Penalty?

It's quick and easy to check, usually you will get an e-mail to the e-mail address associated with your Google search console account notifying you of any manual actions, but these can easily be missed. To check yourself simply:

  • Visit https://search.google.com/search-console/about and click Start now
  • Select the website you wish to check from the drop-down selector on the left under the search console logo
  • Scroll down to "SECURITY & MANUAL ACTIONS" and click the drop down
  • Click manual actions
  • If anything shows here it will be self explanatory - you will be notified as to what the violations are - if you see no issues detected then you do not have a manual action

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to clear a penalty?

This can vary wildly depending on the nature of the manual action, depth of the issue, complexities of resolving and whether you have one or more multiple actions. Typically on average MOST of our clients see reconsideration requests successful around 6-8 weeks from when we are engaged.

In some cases we've had reconsideration requests done within 1-2 weeks of client onboarding, however, the timeframe is based on numerous variables.

Will all of our rankings and traffic be restored?

In most cases yes but not always. Depending on the manual action and the nature of it can impact the outcome, generally manual actions apply to specific pages and subsequently once the reconsideration request goes through, all penalisation is removed and the page goes back to how it did - although this can take a few weeks.

However, things like site-wide policies or broader manual actions can leave a domain in a position where manual action recovery can take many months of ongoing clean up work + trust rebuilding. For most manual actions yes ranking and traffic recovery is swift.

How much will it cost?

Manual action recovery work is billed at £150-£200 per hour and typically works best on a retainer basis of around £2,000 - £4,000 a month subject to the level of work required. We can provide a FULLY integrated clean up service from link and spam cleanups to content rewriting, fresh link building and more.

What is a manual action penalty?

A manual action (Google Penalty) is where someone from Google's search quality team have manually looked at your website to see if it has violated Google's webmaster guidelines or to see if spammy techniques appear to be apparent which have influenced rank. It's written in the name "manual action", meaning a human being sat down and evaluated your website to see what techniques appear to have been used to gamify rankings.

Any found violations are listed as a manual action within Google Search Console.

We lost rankings & traffic but we can't see any manual actions for the domain in search console?

If you have lost rankings and traffic but there is no issue detected showing for the domain in search console than you haven't been hit with a penalty. If you've seen ranking losses and/or traffic losses than it's usually a result of Google core update / spam update or an indexing issue.

Check when the losses began by looking at your Google Search Console data and note where the point of decline starts - then compare your loss date to any google core updates in close proximity. Usually if a sudden ranking / traffic change happens within 1-2 weeks of a Google update it's usually that (these are not penal in the same way a manual action is).
