WHY WAREHOUSE YOUR SEARCH CONSOLE DATA?
WHY WAREHOUSE YOUR SEARCH CONSOLE DATA?
Warehousing search console data is important because it allows you to have a much broader view of a website's performance over time, plus, it allows for the aggregation of useful data such as keyword data, position and impression data, CTR data etc.
Warehoused GSC data is a treasure trove of useful information that can help with forward SEO and marketing - simply because even keyword data with impressions can be useful to ascertain demand and viability.
Warehousing GSC data also helps with performing things such as diagnostic performance audits - for example websites hit by September 2023's helpful content update may STILL to this day be suffering from losses, so, if you have a holistic view of data back beyond then, it gives you a much better dataset to work with from an analysis perspective.
Keyword and impression data is also highly useful in things such as prompt tracking, the more keyword and impression data you have the better.
Some of the key reasons data warehousing is beneficial for your business:
Overcoming Googles Limitations
Overcoming Googles Limitations
- 16-month retention barrier - GSC only keeps a rolling 16 months of data, then it's gone forever. Warehousing gives you unlimited historical retention, so you can do multi-year trend analysis and year-over-year comparisons that the native interface simply can't.
- Row limits and sampling - The GSC UI caps you at 1,000 rows per report, and the API tops out at 50,000 per request. Warehousing lets you capture the full, unsampled dataset - every query, page, and combination - rather than the truncated view.
- Data freshness archive - You capture daily snapshots, so you can see exactly what the data looked like on any past date rather than only Google's current recalculated numbers.
Deeper analysis
Deeper analysis
- Query × page × device × country combinations - Native GSC forces you to pivot one dimension at a time. A warehouse lets you slice across all dimensions simultaneously to find, for example, which specific pages win a query on mobile in a given country.
- Custom aggregations and segments - Group URLs by template, folder, content type, or any taxonomy you define, then track performance at the segment level.
- Keyword cannibalisation detection - Spot multiple pages competing for the same query over time, which is hard to surface in the native tool.
- Striking-distance and decay tracking - Systematically monitor queries hovering on page two, or pages losing impressions/clicks, as standing reports rather than manual pulls.
Integration and scale
Integration and scale
- Join with other datasets - Blend GSC data with analytics, CRM, rank tracking, backlink, or revenue data in one place for full-funnel and ROI analysis.
- Multi-property management - Consolidate dozens or hundreds of properties into a single queryable store, essential for agencies and large sites.
- BI and visualisation - Pipe into Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau, or custom dashboards without hitting API limits on every refresh.
Operational
Operational
- Automated, reliable pulls - Scheduled ingestion means no manual exports and no gaps if someone forgets to download.
- Faster queries - Purpose-built storage returns large historical queries far quicker than repeatedly hitting the API.
- Programmatic access and alerting - Build anomaly detection, automated reporting, and threshold alerts on top of a clean, structured dataset.
- Data ownership - You control the raw data rather than depending on Google's interface and its shifting constraints.
AI INTEGRATION WITH GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE
AI INTEGRATION WITH GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE
SEO Stack allows clients who use the platform to have integrated AI with their GSC (and GA4 data if they wish). The AI integration into SEO stack allows users to query ALL of their GSC data without the limitation of doing it via other means.
The AI Assistant in SEO stack can access every piece of data unlike external solutions where the 50k API limits may mean incomplete data assessment, loss of context amongst other things.
The AI integration in SEO stack is native, it’s literally ready to use for clients right away, simply import a website, head to the AI Assistant and ask ANYTHING about your data.
SEO Stack can do almost anything with GSC and GA4 data including:
- Analysing traffic losses, gains and ranking changes
- Analysing impact from Google core updates
- Analysing new and lost pages from the index
- Analysing decaying content, content de-indexation
- Analysing cannibalisation and canonical issues
- Identifying ranking issues and sudden indexing issues
- Create bar graphs, charts, tables of data including comparison analysis and segments
- Create interactive click line graphs for multiple dimensions (something you can’t do in GSC)
- Find content gaps
- Identify poorly engaging content or content with terrible GA4 metrics
- Identify content that’s not helpful
- Identify content opportunities
- Analyse click and CTR trends
- Analyse your AI annotations to see what is and isn’;t working
And so much more.
WHERE IS THE WAREHOUSED DATA STORED?
WHERE IS THE WAREHOUSED DATA STORED?
SEO Stack data warehousing uses self-hosted data clustering with data chunking and compression. Our servers are based in the US in our own data-centre. Your data is chunked meaning no 2 data sets are kept in the same place for security, your data is also encrypted on the fly.
We can provide clients with self-hosted solutions for on-site hosting or should a client prefer another hosting stack such as AWS or Clickhouse we can provide a configuration, setup and deployment as an enterprise customer.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING GSC + BIGQUERY VS SEO STACK?
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING GSC + BIGQUERY VS SEO STACK?
So starting with Google BigQuery first:Google's Bulk Data Export is free to set up and streams your raw, unsampled Search Console data into BigQuery daily. There are no row limits, no sampling, and once it's running you own the full dataset across query, page, click, impression, ctr etc. For a company with in-house data engineers, an existing Google Cloud footprint and a team fluent in SQL, it's a powerful foundation but, it’s not FREE forever, especially if your data footprint grows.
But that foundation is all it is. And it comes with strings attached:
- It only collects from the day you switch it on, there's no historical backfill the export starts empty and fills forward day by day, so the multi-year history you actually want is years away.
- It requires a Google Cloud project with billing enabled. Storage and query costs are modest for small sites but climb as data and usage grow, and they're variable and metered rather than predictable.
- It's raw tables and nothing else. No interface, no charts, no filters, no annotations. Every question you want to ask has to be written in SQL first.
- Someone has to build and maintain it. Query templates, Datastudio dashboards, scheduled jobs, schema handling that's typically associated with an engineering project.
- There's no AI native, BigQuery stores your data; it doesn't interpret it, show opportunities, or answer questions in plain English.
In short: BigQuery gives you a warehouse with bare infrastructure. If you have the team to fit it out, great. Most SEOs and agencies don't and even the ones that do rarely want their engineers spending sprints on GSC plumbing.
What SEO Stack does differently:
What SEO Stack does differently:
SEO Stack starts from the same premise, get your Search Console data out of Google's cage and into permanent storage but its delivered in a ready built architecture and familiar UI.
With BigQuery you have to create your interface and even then, interacting with data is not the same when you have to jump between GSC and your external custom built UI - SEO Stack effectively takes that away.
You connect a property in one click and SEO Stack warehouses up to 10 years of GSC data with no row limits, no sampling and no export caps. Then it hands you everything you'd otherwise have to build yourself: a familiar GSC-style interface, an AI assistant that talks to your data, saved filter libraries, annotations, period comparisons, GA4 integration and a full suite of analysis tools all working out of the box.
No cloud project. No SQL. No maintenance. No engineer.
