SEO for Jewellers

At Assertive we work with jewellers & jewellery brands on their SEO strategies to help drive product sales and new customer acquisition. The jewellery market in the UK is valued between £6.41 billion and £8.5 billion according to Statista.

The UK jewellery market is huge with millions of transactions yearly across all different jewellery types from ear accessories to necklaces and pendants, rings, bracelets and specialist jewellery.

We help both high street brick and mortar jewellers to sell products via their website and via their shop as well as serving online jewellers. Whether you specialise in buying or selling precious metals such as gold and silver or, you offer wedding rings, bracelets, necklaces - it doesn’t matter, we can help.

We’ve done extensive work in the industry, helping to optimise jewellery brand websites and google my business profiles to improve performance in local search too. We help high street shops to get more prominence in local searches so more people “pop in” to enquire or purchase, we also help online retailers to rank higher for high intent jewellery searches that lead to more purchases and overall purchase revenue through the website.

Our writers have experience producing content across all jewellery categories + types including but not limited to:

  • Studs: Small designs that rest snugly on the lobe, like diamond or pearl studs.
  • Drop/Dangle Earrings: Pieces that hang below the earlobe and sway with movement.
  • Hoops: Circular or semi-circular metal bands that loop through the piercing.
  • Huggies: Small, tight-fitting hoops that "hug" the earlobe.

Necklaces & Pendants

  • Chokers: Tight-fitting necklaces that rest high on the neck, typically 14 to 16 inches.
  • Pendants: Chains featuring a single hanging detail, like a locket or solitaire crystal.
  • Tennis Necklaces: Continuous lines of diamonds or gemstones wrapping the entire neckline.
  • Chains: Linked metal necklaces worn solo or with charms.

Rings

  • Solitaire & Engagement: Rings featuring a single prominent gemstone, traditionally marking a proposal.
  • Eternity Bands: Rings with a continuous row of gemstones wrapping around the entire finger.
  • Signet Rings: Rings featuring a flat top, often engraved with initials or a family crest.

  • Bangles: Rigid, circular bracelets without clasps that slide over the wrist.

  • Cuffs: Wide, open-backed bracelets that are slipped onto the wrist.

Body & Specialty Jewelry

  • Belly Button Rings: Dangling or barbell pieces specifically designed for navel piercings.
  • Brooches: Decorative pins secured to clothing with a clasp.
  • Cufflinks: Decorative fasteners used to secure the cuffs of dress shirts.

JEWELLERY LINK BUILDING

Usually, jewellery websites have a mix of products of varying values, however, a lot of jewellery sites do sell higher value products or products with higher AOVs, this makes trust all that more important.

When Google is ranking sites selling jewellery, it needs to be sure that the website is a legitimate business that’s actually serving customers, so links are one way to validate the establishment and trust of a brand selling anything from gold or silver wedding rings through to chains, bracelets, necklaces, bands, pendants + more.

Links play an extremely important role in eCommerce SEO primarily because they act as another element of trust into the brand, with jewellery, because the stakes can be higher, especially for boutique or wedding jewellery, it’s crucial there are good links to support the domain and brand overall.

We get high quality links via a mix of earned and promotional media such as digital PR, features in magazines, publications and review websites along with more traditional link building such as vetted niche edits and guest posts.

We look for sites that have an affinity to jewellery and eCom as a niche, so we look at getting links from beauty magazines and publications, wedding magazines and publications, lifestyle brands, business sites & more.

JEWELLERY CRO & ENGAGEMENT

We help to improve conversion rates and purchase outcomes, from reducing funnel abandonment to improving overall user experience. When people are buying higher value items such as golden rings or wedding rings, often, they’ll want big beautiful, clear pictures on a fast loading website that oozes quality and trust.

Even low level UX issues can have a profound impact on conversion rates - this is where we step in to identify, analyse and fix conversion issues.

COMMON ISSUES FACED BY JEWELLERY BRANDS IN SEO

Jewellery ecom has a few structural problems that make it harder than most verticals, mostly stemming from how the products themselves work. There are so many variables from the volume of product categories to products to underlying CMS or tech stack.

The most common issues we encounter include:

  • Variant and faceted navigation bloat is usually the biggest challenge.

A single ring might come in five metals, three stone options, and twenty ring sizes, so you get hundreds of near-identical URLs (or parameterised variants) competing with each other which leads to things like cannibalisation and indexing issues. Most platforms handle this badly by default: Shopify's variant URLs, layered nav on Magento generating crawlable filter combinations (metal + carat + price + stone), etc. Crawl budget gets eaten, index bloat sets in, and the canonical strategy is often inconsistent some variants canonicalised, some not, some indexed with near-zero differentiation.

  • Thin and duplicated product copy.

Jewellery brands often pull manufacturer or supplier descriptions (especially retailers stocking Pandora, Swarovski, etc.), so hundreds of sites carry identical copy. Even own-brand sites tend toward two-line poetic descriptions ("timeless elegance...") with no substantive content - no materials detail, sizing guidance, care info, hallmarking. Nothing for Google to differentiate on, and nothing that answers the long-tail queries people actually search.

  • Keyword cannibalisation across category structure.

"Gold hoop earrings" might be a category page, a filtered view, a collection page for a campaign, and several product pages all loosely targeting the same term. Jewellery taxonomies are messy because products cut across multiple dimensions (type × metal × stone × occasion × recipient), and brands often create overlapping collection pages for merchandising reasons without an SEO-led decision on which page owns which query.

  • Discontinued and out-of-stock handling.

Jewellery lines rotate seasonally and one-off/limited pieces sell out permanently. Sites accumulate thousands of dead product URLs either 404ing (losing link equity and rankings) or left live indefinitely (poor UX, soft-quality signals). Few have a coherent policy: 301 to parent category for permanent removals, keep-live-with-alternatives for temporary stock-outs.

  • Structured data gaps.

Product schema is often incomplete missing price, availability, review markup, or GTINs/MPNs (jewellery frequently lacks standard identifiers, which also hurts Google Shopping matching). Merchant Center feed and on-page schema mismatches trigger disapprovals. And with review-rich results being a major CTR driver in this vertical, missing aggregateRating is a real cost.

  • Image-heavy, JS-heavy builds.

Jewellery sites lean hard on visual merchandising high-res imagery, 360 viewers, virtual try-on, configurators. Common results: poor LCP/CLS, product content rendered client-side that doesn't make it into the initial HTML, and configurable products (engagement ring builders especially) where the actual purchasable combinations have no crawlable URLs at all.

  • Ignoring image search and visual discovery.

Ironic for the vertical jewellery has disproportionate discovery via Google Images, Lens, and Pinterest, yet sites ship generic filenames, no alt text, and lazy-loaded galleries Google can't parse.

  • The engagement ring / high-AOV research journey.

Considered purchases mean heavy informational search (4Cs guides, metal comparisons, ring size guides, lab-grown vs natural), but most brands have thin or no supporting content, so comparison sites and publishers own the top of funnel. This matters even more now with AI search LLMs are answering "how to choose an engagement ring" queries, and brands with no cited content are invisible in that layer.

  • Trust signals for YMYL-adjacent purchases.

High-ticket jewellery gets held to a higher E-E-A-T bar: no visible authorship or gemmologist credentials, weak about/guarantee/hallmarking pages, and sparse review profiles hurt more here than in low-consideration ecom.

  • There's also the perennial internationalisation mess for brands selling across UK/EU/US hreflang misconfiguration on currency/country variants and seasonality planning failures, where Christmas/Valentine's/Mother's Day landing pages get created fresh each year on new URLs instead of maintaining evergreen ones that accrue equity.

HOW MUCH DO WE CHARGE FOR SEO FOR JEWELLERS?

SEO Costs can vary wildly depending on the size of your brand, website and product coverage. The pricing looks something like this:

We can provide a free no obligation SEO quotation.

  • Small independent jewellers - can expect to pay up to £2,000 a month
  • Medium jewellers (online or multiple store fronts) can expect to pay up to £5,000 a month
  • Larger jewellers or high end boutique jewellers can expect to pay from £5,000 up to £15,000 a month

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET RESULTS?

This will depend on a lot of things such as your websites pre-existing organic profile, strength of brand and product coverage. Most of our jewellery clients typically see results between months 6-12, however we regularly see impression and ranking growth in the first 3-6 months.

We provide detailed and insightful performance reporting - so you can see ranking growth and impression growth on the run up to click growth.

Whether you are trying to rank for buy jewellery online, buy diamond rings, buy gold rings - whatever you are looking to rank for let our team of highly experienced SEO specialists help build your brand an SEO strategy followed by a strong and performance driven SEO campaign.

WHY IS THIS SECTOR MORE CHALLENGING?

Because jewellery typically has higher AOVs and higher margins, the SERPS tend to be highly saturated and crowded. If you aren;’t battling with high CPC and conversion costs from PPC already dealing with organic SERPS can be very challenging.

High competition and a higher bar to rank because of the degree of brand trust required - especially with higher value items i.e. 24ct gold rings, diamond rings where list prices regularly exceed £3,000-£,5000+.

It’s also challenging primarily because a lot of jewellers' sites are built to look and feel high end, many have a lot of customisation making them more challenging to optimise & to deal with the wide array of product variants.

Then there’s the local aspect, many jewellers tend to have a high street footprint and therefore need both general SEO as well as local SEO to ensure searches for jewellers returns your brand prominently in map pack results (google my business).
