About CarShop (Sytner Group)

CarShop is the used car retail arm of Sytner Group, one of the UK's largest motor retail groups. CarShop operates carshop.co.uk as a standalone domain serving the UK used car market in direct competition with online-first marketplace players.

The Challenge

CarShop operates in one of the most competitive verticals in UK organic search, going head to head with well-funded marketplace players including Cazoo, Motors, Cinch and Heycar.

A long-established standalone domain sat alongside a much larger parent group, raising the question of whether to remain independent or fold into Sytner's wider digital estate.

Accumulated technical debt, including JS rendering issues on vehicle and filter pages plus accessibility and crawlability issues, limited inventory discoverability.

Brand performance was healthy, but non-brand exposure in the used car marketplace was well below where the domain's authority and inventory should have placed it.

The Solution

We delivered a full deep-dive SEO audit and performance review combined with a strategic assessment of CarShop's position within the Sytner group, with rendering, cannibalization and competitor analysis at the core.

Our Strategy

The strategy for CarShop was to combine forensic SEO diagnostics with strategic, board-level thinking on the brand's digital future.

We started with a full technical crawl alongside a dedicated rendering audit, comparing raw and rendered HTML on vehicle, make and model filter templates to surface JavaScript-dependent content Google was failing to process.

GSC data was extracted across domain and URL properties and processed through SEO Stack to enable a segmented teardown by template, brand/non-brand, query intent and page type.

We then layered in content review across category and vehicle description templates, a full link profile audit and a competitor and marketplace analysis benchmarked against Cazoo, Motors, Cinch and Heycar.

The strategic layer on top of the audit assessed CarShop's standalone equity, audience and ranking footprint against the alternative of consolidating into Sytner, with a clear recommendation on the most defensible long-term direction.

The Goals

  • Deliver a full performance review and SEO audit of CarShop
  • Diagnose technical, rendering, accessibility and crawlability issues
  • Resolve cannibalization across vehicles, makes and model filter pages
  • Quantify brand vs non-brand performance and identify non-brand growth opportunities
  • Benchmark CarShop against Cazoo, Motors, Cinch and Heycar
  • Review content quality across category pages and vehicle descriptions
  • Audit the link profile for quality, velocity and risk
  • Provide strategic guidance on CarShop as a standalone asset vs merging into Sytner
  • Position CarShop to compete more effectively in the UK used car marketplace SERPs

SEO Strategies for Luxury Travel Brands

Affluent travellers face real decision fatigue when planning complex itineraries, and this fatigue pushes them toward highly structured queries instead: a full thought rather than a couple of keywords, something closer to "private Parisian townhouses with butler service" or "boutique hotels Amalfi Coast with private beach and concierge service."
