Website accessibility plays a major part in visitor retention levels. Websites that are difficult to use or are not structured properly will have a poor client retention level, and tend to loose visitors quickly. A high bounce rate is usually an indication of poor website usability and accessibility.
Accessibility is important because it allows all sorts of visitors using various browsers to access the website. If a website fails to accommodate for a group of users or browser clients then it is unlikely to retain the visitors.
Although website accessibility does not directly affect search engine optimisation, it has an affect on the newly acquired visitors, which is a large potential for wasted investment. Websites by nature should accommodate for all types of people, from people with vision impairments to those who have difficulty navigating websites.
Accessibility also affects major browsers, the difference between rendering standards can mean that some websites may fail to display properly in various browsers whilst working in others. Websites that display properly in Internet Explorer may not display correctly in Firefox, this is due to the nature of the rendering engine behind the browser.
Assertive-Media offer a full website accessibility service which will identify and repair any issues with a website that does not accommodate in a compliant manor.
Our accessibility services cover a wide range of identification and implementation processes from text sizing, header formatting to page loading times.

Here are some common issues that are unresolved on many websites:
Page Display Issues
This is an incredibly common problem. Firefox renders heading tags in a slightly different method to that of Internet Explorer. Frequently, header tags will appear larger and may even go past their DIV constraints in Firefox whilst appearing perfectly normal in Internet Explorer.
Other page display issues can include mis-positioning of page elements from Image Layers to Text Layers.
Lack of Text Sizing
Another common issue is the inability to change the text size on the page. This is ideal for those who may have poor sight or those running their display at incredibly high resolutions.
Lack of Alternate's in the Case of Javascript or Flash
Some websites utilise scripting such as Javascript, Flash, AJAX, Active X or other controls that are disabled on some peoples computers. In this case, an alternative text based version should be made available to avoid an additional loss of website visitors.
