Google L33t - What is it?

Thursday, June 4, 2009        ( 1 Comment)

Google has always been a pinacle when it comes to search technology, and I have always liked to think of Google as the search engine that keeps things simple. But there comes a time when new things pop their head above the surface, only to create lots of public interest.

The latest thing to talk about, is a very well hidden “Google L33t” which, needless to say is a bit confusing. Its an alternative version of Google represented in Geek Speak, roughly translated, using letters, numbers and symbols to spell words instead of letters alone.

As you can see, it seems to make no sense at first glimpse, but if you look carefully, you will be able to read out the meanings, such as

“EyE Am ph33|1n6|u(ky”  actually means
“I am feeling lucky”

And the same for pretty much all the other features on the page.

Whats more is that this is actually a Google product, as you can access it from http://www.google.com/intl/xx-hacker/

It serves as no practical use, just a fun alternative to the plain and simple home page, for what Google considers as “Normies”, or for people that are really not bothered about spelling.
